Foreword

This year marks the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, as well as the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. Both hold significance as they remind us not only to reflect on the past but also to look to the future. The Chinese people have gained a victory in the War of Resistance and managed to restore peace, getting through arduous struggles at the beginning of the founding of the republic and registering rapid growth during the country's reform and opening-up. Now we are in a new era of high-quality development. We have been persevering in our united pursuit of prosperity, and have astonished the world with remarkable achievements that fill us with immense pride as Chinese.
Hong Kong is inseparable from our Motherland. In the face of the current international landscape of growing complexity, the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) actively ties in with the national development strategies and strives for the full implementation of the principles of "One Country, Two Systems" and "patriots administering Hong Kong", while steadfastly safeguarding national security. Hong Kong will capitalise on the unique advantage of enjoying strong support of the Motherland and close ties with the world, and give full play to our role as the two-way platform for our country to go global and attract foreign investments by enhancing regional collaboration and international exchanges. The HKSAR Government will continue to take forward reforms and draw up a visionary development blueprint with innovative thinking so as to further enhance Hong Kong's competitiveness and make greater contribution to the country's high-quality development.
Following the National Day celebrations, there will be the National Games, which are held every four years. Hong Kong has been entrusted with the important task of co-hosting this year's National Games, the National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the National Special Olympic Games with Guangdong and Macao. We will spare no effort in ensuring the successful organisation of the events and work together with Guangdong and Macao to present a spectacular sporting extravaganza.
To mark the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China, the HKSAR Government will, in collaboration with various sectors of the community, organise a wide range of splendid celebratory events in the 18 districts. The entire city will celebrate the National Day and, at the same time, prepare for the National Games. Come to join us and share our joy. May I wish our country continued prosperity, peace and stability.
